‘polite break’ mug graphics | you’re welcome

An idea that filtered into my head at 3am yesterday. It’s been done before in different ways, but I’m going for more of an etiquette slant on this old chestnut….

There’s nothing like a proper good cuppa. There’s also nothing like being polite to someone if they offer to make you one. The concept behind my latest escape-from-doing-coursework production stems from two things: a polite response to ‘would you like a cup of ……?’ and a reminder to the kind maker about how you like your bevvy.

I’m the proud owner of a memory like a sieve which results in me constantly having to ask one of my colleagues how she takes her tea. In the wee small hours of the morning amidst a bout of insomnia, a little lightbulb pinged on. Why not have it on the mug? Also, should I be on the phone and a colleague grabs my mug and makes me a nice cup of Rosy Lee, why not get the mug to temporarily convey good manners whilst I’m otherwise verbally engaged?

So, ‘polite mugs’ have been spawned:

If you’d like your own polite mug, you’re welcome to download an appropriate image for nought pounds and diddly-squit pence from the list below and make one for you and yours. I’ve used Cafepress to create my own custom mug (that’ll be tea with milk and no sugar, just so you know), so the files are provided in a format which should meet their image requirements.

If you feel inclined, you can sign up to Cafepress (you can do it for nowt) and follow the instructions for making ‘custom products’. Please note, that the image is centred as is, so will mean that the main ‘XXX please’ will be set somewhat left of centre if using this site. If you’d like to use another site to create your goodies, familiarise yourself with their accepted image formats in case they warrant another file type. Sorry if I sound like I’m teaching my gran to suck eggs, here.

Feel free to click on your chosen selection from the list for the full size image and save it as a .png file.

If anybody would like a combination with three or more sugars, drop me a comment and I’ll see if I can whittle it up for you.

These images are politely licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works 2.0 UK: England & Wales Licence. A mouthful in itself, which basically means you’re very welcome to use them but not to alter them or profit from them, ta muchly. Please let me know if you use any of the images – pictures of tea-slurping and coffee-slugging poses are most welcome.

  1. What a fabulous idea! Thanks for offering up the.png. What a great office gift(especially for a new employee).

I wish cafepress.com had nicer cups, not just the standard mug.

Anyway-thanks for this lovely idea. I just started a tea blog http://www.myteacups.wordpress.com and will def link back to this post soon!

  2. Thank you! Glad you liked ‘em!

I see you’re someone with an eye for special teacups. Tea rocks.

Cafepress is used as an example of an accessible online resource in which to use the graphics if peeps wish to – but there are certainly other resources folks can use. Good ol’ Google should help pave the way with alternative sources. Cups can cut it, but I do like a nice mug’o tea, too.

I love tea, me. So, I’m looking forward to some tea-touting stuff on your new blog!

  3. Yes a nice mug is good now and then-and you don’t feel bad scrubbing away and never have to worry about anything delicate.

would you mind if I link back to your post about the mugs and use your image in my post?

hope you enjoy any tea tidbits on my blog. I am planning on posting daily and really expressing my love for tea.
